About This Quote

In the book, "Sebastopol by Leo Tolstoy", Leo Tolstoy tells a story about a peasant who is being chased by a wolf. The wolf manages to attack the peasant and bite his arm. He sets out with the wolf still clinging to his arm. Finally, he uses a sharp tool to cut off the wolf's head.

What happens next was a very interesting part of the story. After cutting off the head of the wolf, he found that he did not feel any pain. He continued on until finally reaching his destination where he was greeted by people saying, “You have killed him! You have killed him!” The story ends with Tolstoy saying that this was what fear does to us - it kills our soul and takes away our life force.

When we are afraid, we are no longer ourselves because fear limits us from doing what's best for us. Fear doesn't give you something in return or even allow you to save your life. You are left alone to try again until you succeed or lose your life trying.
